Community Microgrids: Renewables-Driven Resilience

Microgrid map

South Coast residents know that our electrical grid is vulnerable to outages caused by fire, floods, landslides, earthquakes, and more. To make our grid resilient, plans for a Community Microgrid are in the works. The Goleta Load Pocket Community Microgrid Initiative (GLPCM) calls for enough renewables-driven local power generation and storage to keep critical community facilities online in an emergency. In addition to potential solar, wind, and storage projects, learn about the transmission lines we depend on, local electrical load profiles, So Cal Edison's plans, energy generation incentives, and upgrades to our local grid called for by the initiative.
