The Science and Engineering Council of Santa Barbara
The Science and Engineering Council (SEC) is a non-profit organization devoted to providing interaction among individuals, companies, and institutions engaged in scientific and engineering activities within Santa Barbara County. Founded in 1965, SEC promotes public awareness of science and the value of technical enterprises to the community.
Our meetings:
Monthly lunch programs are open to the public and are held the second Wednesday of each month at noon. Attend our hybrid meetings either in person (in Goleta) or on Zoom. Our speakers focus on topics of current interest from a science & technology angle and include extended time for Q&A. Attend in-person to network with engineers, scientists, and business professionals.
Our YouTube channel has a growing collection of recorded meetings. See the past topics list for a complete list of meetings since 2001.
Our outreach:
- STEM scholarships are for local college students in the sciences. These scholarships are administered through the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara.
- Science Fair awards recognize top winners in the Santa Barbara County science fair, who present their projects at our luncheon. This gives them valuable practice in advance of the California State Science Fair. We present monetary awards, certificates, and trophies to winners in all divisions.
