Commercial Applications for Infrared Imaging:
The State of the Art
Infrared imaging is used for a wide variety of applications, including night vision and surveillance, military targeting, process control and testing, machine vision, robotics, medical research, meteorology, and gas detection. After a brief overview of infrared sensor technology, our speaker will discuss specific commercial applications for imaging the IR portion of the spectrum. He will show many interesting images, both in visible light and infrared.

Austin Richards, PhD
Research Scientist, Indigo Systems
Austin Richards has a Ph.D. in Physics from UC Berkeley. He has worked as a research scientist at Indigo Systems (now FLIR Systems, Indigo Operations) for 5 years. He is the author of the SPIE monograph "Alien Vision: Exploring the Electromagnetic Spectrum with Imaging Technology", which has been called a "clearly written, humorous, and outstandingly illustrated non-technical tour of the spectrum of light".
