Patents and Intellectual Property for Technologists

Basic issues surrounding patents and intellectual property are often misunderstood. What does a patent cover? Is my invention patentable? Who owns a patent? When do I have to file a patent application? Is a patent the only way to protect my "invention"? Is my software patentable or copyrightable? These issues, as well as brief review of other forms of intellectual property protection (trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks) will be discussed.
