Telematics: What is IT?

"Telematics" products and services add communications, information, remote control, and entertainment capabilities to vehicles. For example, Vetronix, headquartered in Santa Barbara, developed WirelessRoad, which allows fleet managers to monitor the location, speed, fuel level, and status of vehicles in the field. Other products developed by Vetronix provide voice access to e-mail and the Web in your car.

Walter F. Ware
Sr. Vice President Development & Strategy, Vetronix Corporation

Walt Ware is the SVP Corporate Development & Strategy and was the VP and General Manager of Telematics start-up of the Vetronix Corporation, which is headquartered in Santa Barbara. Ware has over 30 years of experience in the global automotive, aerospace and industrial machinery industries. He has held senior executive positions at AlliedSignal Corporation (now Honeywell) as Group VP of North American Automotive Operations and Chief Technical Officer, Penske Corporation - Detroit Diesel Corp. SVP Global Procurement, Aftermarket and Remanufacturing Operations and Turbodyne Technologies.

As an prime propulsion engineer he has been directly involved in programs such as the Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird", MacDonnell F-4 Phantom, AlliedSignal Hypersonic Research Engine, and the product and market development the global turbocharger industry where, AlliedSignal remains the dominant player today, to name a few.
