Products with Digital Signal Processors (DSP)
You probably carry a DSP or two in your pocket these days. But, the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) doesn't get as much press as its big brother the CPU. Many devices have DSPs at their core: cell phones, MP3 players, digital hearing aids, fingerprint authentication systems, and more.
In the past, programming a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) was almost always done in assembly language, and generally took a long time to get right. Texas Instruments, Santa Barbara has been instrumental in changing that. Now DSPs are often programmed in C and with a faster time-to-market. This talk will describe some DSP applications and explain how operating system and other software developed in Santa Barbara helps DSP developers around the world. Texas Instruments' Santa Barbara office (formerly Spectron Microsystems and Dialogic) has 40 local employees.

From the Co-Presidents: Each year SEC provides one or more scholarships - working through the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation - to local students who are pursuing science or engineering studies at the college or university level. In the last few years, because of your generosity, SEC has helped two students annually. Shortly, we will start our scholarship fund raising for this year. We are hopeful that each of you will support this effort by contributing to the scholarship fund. Also, our membership forms and directory can now be downloaded from the web at http://www.scieng.org. We also wish to welcome Digital Instruments/Veeco who have rejoined SEC.
